Koh Phi Phi // Thailand

Welcome to crowded beaches, unreasonable prices and annoying people!

This island is just as touristy as it can be! Every night you can get drunk with cheap (but, to be honest, also very tasty) buckets (preferably of mojito!) and dance till your soles get sore! Which is fun at times, and survivable for one or two nights, but as a solo traveler I prefer calm spots and more profound conversations rather than the usual smalltalk and pick-up lines. bigsmile

The streets are filled with restaurants, guesthouses, shops, travel agencies and diving companies, and everyone is only interested in your money. Also there are plenty construction sites around the island, building even more resorts to accommodate more tourists … confused

Koh Phi Phi Don is the main island of the group and its main village is rather small. It takes you about one to two hours to see everything it has to offer. If you want to see more of Koh Phi Phi you can also book an additional boat trip, e.g. to visit Monkey beach or the famous Maya Bay on Koh Phi Phi Leh.

What I found to be really interesting, and what made me come to Koh Phi Phi in the first place, is, that there are (almost) no motorized vehicles. The streets aren’t wide enough for cars and I’ve rarely seen any scooters while staying there. Most of the things get carried around with big push carts, which is quite impressive, especially when you see one of these fully loaded with oxygen tanks for diving (which are known to be very heavy)!

PEE PEE VIEWPOINT

The viewpoint offers a really nice view over „pee pee“ and gets very busy around sundown. Everybody tries to capture this fleeing moment of romance by taking a selfie, which kind of ruins the atmosphere for everyone. It had been great to watch as social studies though! wink

>> IMPRESSIONS <<

As you can tell by now, I am not too fond of Koh Phi Phi. Everything is over-priced and it’s super-noisy all the time. Except for the early mornings, when shops are still closed and the people are still sleeping to avoid a bad hangover. wink Of course the nature itself is utterly beautiful and therefore Phi Phi really deserves to be called one of the most beautiful beaches on the planet.

But if you like loud „Ballermann-Style“, this might be the perfect island for you though! In my humble opinion, one might as well skip it. wink

PARADISE DORM ROOM

I stayed at the Paradise Dorm Room, which is a good choice if you’re on a budget. But don’t expect anything too fancy. The dorm was clean and the stuff very nice and they made an effort to keep it tidy. But like many dorms on Phi Phi you could enter directly from the street into the dorm room. So you need to put a lot of trust in these drunk people out there. Because you’ll never know, if someone is going to steal your backpack. neutral
